Iconify

This website is intended primarily to catalog the work of any and every icon designer founded in Internet. It is intended to be a showcase of high-quality icon designs, a ton of which are free. It is also intended to showcase and promote the designers themselves. And it is intended to be a high-quality resource for anyone interested in icons.

Iconify.info is a project by Scott Lewis of Iconify.it. A site to promote all icon design and designers. Rather than focus on individual icon downloads like other directories such as The Noun Project or Iconfinder, Iconify.info lists icon designers, other icon sites, icon resources, and icon collections.

Brands Icons And Color Style Guides (100 Icons, PNG, CSS)

Another weekend, and yet another freebie. Today, we are happy to feature a useful icon set, the Simple Icons by Dan Leech. Dan’s set contains 100 PNG icons for popular websites, apps and organisations, all in eleven sizes (16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 and 4096 pixels squared).

The white icons have transparent backgrounds, which makes them ridiculously simple to style with CSS. As a bonus, simpleicons.org maintains a list of official background colour values that can be used in conjunction with the icons, thoroughly researched and derived from official branding guidelines of each brand.

Read 20 Great Books in 2 Minutes, Emoji Style

It’s easy for classic works of literature to become casualties of always-on modern life. You keep meaning to crack them open and improve your mind, but … well, social networks and YouTube videos are so much more instantly rewarding, aren’t they?

Which is why we were heartened to learn Tuesday that the Library of Congress hasaccepted its first book written entirely in Emoji — those fun and versatile little pictures you can add to text messages on your smartphone.

The book takes one of those classic works you’ve always meant to read — Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick — and transforms it into Emoji Dick. Which got us wondering: What would other literary landmarks look like if you translated them into Emoji?

We’ve interpreted 20 well-known titles in the gallery above. To test your novel IQ, see if you can guess the title of each book first. Then simply highlight the black text following the word “Answer” in each slide. Your cursor will reveal the answer like magic.

Want to create your own Emoji tributes to great works? Post them in the comments, and we’ll add the best ones to our slideshow.

Social Media Sharing Icons Influence Web Designs

Last weekend I participated in my first hackathon ever. Do you know what hackathon is? It’s a 24-hours long marathon where people with money (investors) look for potentially successful development projects. So me and my friends had to build and to present a more or less ready-made project (both from development and business point of view), so that investors would want to spend their money on it. On one of the latest stages of the project development our developers and designers disputed a lot about social media icons to choose. Nobody wanted to give in. This argument gave me an idea to pay more attention to social media icons in web design. What can they look like? What are they really used for? Why do web developers doubt about them?

Chunky Pika Icon Set (42 Icons, PNG, AI)

We have a delicate and useful icon set for you, again. Dutch designers from Dutch Icon created a new set of 42 Pika-style vector icons, released with Smashing Magazine for the Web design community. The icons are available as PNG (in two sizes) and AI source files. The icons are released under a Creative Commons Attribution license.

You may be looking to brighten up your checkout page with a more original shopping cart icon or perhaps you’re designing a website from scratch that requires a shrimp icon. Either way, if your budget is limited and you need a wide array of different icons, this set of chunky pixel-perfect icon might be just what you need.

The icons are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. You are free to distribute, transform, fiddle with and build them into your work, even commercially. However, please always credit the original designer of the set (in this case, Dutch Icon).
